This possession game in a small sided pitch has teh goal to coach one of the topic I’ve focused on the most in these first training weeks of the season.
To look for a third man farther, after a quick ball combination inside small spaces.
The 4 v 4 duel depends on the working groups I organized; but I think the topic of this game is quite independent from the number of players.
The goalkeepers and the goals give the exercise a strong “attacking perspective”.

Two teams of 5 players each (goalkeepers are included) play a 4 v 4 duel in a small-sided pitch (35×20 m). The field also has two outside areas of 35×5 m each.
The goal for the team in possession is to build the move from the goalkeeper, who plays the ball toward the outer areas and to finish the moves after a pass combination with a “third man”.
When two players have played the ball, the other two must switch their position, or they must run in the outside areas to receive wide and then they must finish in the center area of the field.
The team in possession must finish the moves, looking for a third man outside first, and then through an inside run without the ball.
If the defending team wins the ball, the move must always start again from the goalkeeper.
Variation: If the defending team recovers the possession, a counterattack can be organized freely.
