This exercise is a progression of a possession game I used as warm up, and it has two basic goals:
• build up from the back with the goalkeeper
• positive and negative transitions with change of direction of play (attack and defense)
(the regular goal is used as a space landmark for the position of the goalkeeper; I always place at least two cones with the same distance of the goal for the goalkeepers in these kind of exercises)

A small-sided game is played on a suitable pitch for the age and the level of the players; the pitch is then split horizontally into two halves.

A 4 v 3 with the goalkeeper duel is played inside the upper half to build up from the back and the team in possession must pass the ball to the forwards, who are placed inside the second half of the field, to score in the mini goal.

The three forwards without the ball must then close the vertical passing lanes and double the mark against the center defenders with the ball.

If they win the possession,

they play 3 v 2, as transition to attack, to score in the same mini goal which is now saved by the forwards of the blue team
