This exercise, which I often run with many variations, is a simple set-up possession game, but the requirements for players in possession are not so easy, and not always immediate.
The focus point of the possession phase is the free player (10), who must always have three different passing options and the players of the team in possession must be placed not to be on the same line.

Depth, width and back pass are options that must always be available for the free players.

In this small-sided game the red possession team, is asked to attack the main goal together with the free player and through an unmarked center forward, who must shoot on goal.

The free player must always have a chance of

  • a back pass (4),
  • of a wide pass (7)
  • of a forward pass (9).

If the defenders win the ball, they can counter attack together with the same free player to finish in the mini goal.

The direction of play must be changed every 2/3 minutes.
