“This traning session is one of the first during the regular 18/19 season.”
16 players (wihtout goalkeepers) were divided into 2 groups of 8 working on rondos with exchange of positions to balance the formation shape, rondos’ developments to finish and in 1 v 1 sequences to reproduce a micro-situation of the two prior exercises. The final game was totally free to have fun.
The two first practices were divided into 4 series of 4′ each, with 1′ rest (40′ total training time); I added two series for the second exercise to run a variation when defenders won the possession.
The 1 v 1 duels were carried out for about 20′ (3 groups of six).
As I required a huge awareness to the three first practices, I gave the players more than 25′ for their final match (8 v 8), asking them to play with the highest intensity possible.
This training session was divided into four phases:
- Rondo Warm-up: 4+1 v 3 (2 groups). The main goals were to make the players distribute to find a teammate between the lines, to play forward in behind the pressure lines and to move balancing the formation shape.
- Finishing Rondo: 4+1 v 3 (2 groups). To distribute to find a teammate as back support, to play out wide to drive the ball forward, to move off the ball to finish, and to move balancing the formation shape were the main objectives. Variation: 4 v 4 small sided-game when defenders won the possession.
- Basic 1 v 1 duels with a back support if the sequence couldn’t be finished and forward support when the possession was recovered.
- Final free game (8 v 8)
